What is 1 to 1 mentoring?
Our mentoring programme is designed to support individuals who feel that they are unable to access the support they need, feel unable to advocate for themselves, or are unsure as to what next steps to take.
All of our mentoring and coaching is trauma-informed and centred on the individual. This approach underpins all of our core services.
It all begins with a referral, either from an individual or organisation eg job centres, health, probation, housing, community and voluntary groups.
If a client is eligible for our support, we will set up an initial meeting with them.
This meeting is usually in a café or community setting that is familiar to the client and lasts about an hour. It is an informal and non-judgemental chat where the mentor and client get to know each other and start to build up a rapport.
The mentor seeks to understand the individual barriers and motivations around key concerns such as physical and mental health, financial concerns, criminal justice issues, risk of homelessness, unemployment and substance misuse.
The client and mentor then work together to create a goal support plan.
These goals can be small, or large, but they are all tangible and achievable. Some are for the mentor and some are for the client.
In the first instance, goals are usually based on building confidence. Goals are reviewed each month as the client moves closer and closer to their main objectives.
Support is put in place along the way from our other pillars of support and from allied trusts and services. Konnect’s support can be in place for 3 to 12 months, depending on the needs of the client.
As for the outcomes of our mentoring programme? We believe they speak for themselves when we see our clients go on to thrive. You can read some of success stories here.
